What is the licensing process for massage therapists in New Mexico and in other states? PDF Print E-mail
Each state in the United States has different licensing requirements for massage therapists. There are some that actually don’t have any sort of licensing process, and then there are others, like New Mexico, that have required licensing for massage therapists longer than many other states.

New Mexico has very rigorous requirements for massage therapists. In order to become licensed in this state you need to have graduated from a New Mexico registered massage therapy school like Crystal Mountain with at least a seventy percent pass rate in Anatomy and Physiology, and in the massage and body work classes. Once you’ve graduated from a registered school you need to take a national certification exam. When you pass this national exam, you’re allowed to begin practicing as a registered massage therapist in the state of New Mexico.

Since New Mexico requires more hours of education than many other states that have licensing, if you do decide to move, it’s likely you’ll meet the requirements for education hours wherever you’re going if you’ve attended school at Crystal Mountain. So, in most cases you won’t need to take additional course work to get licensed in another state.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as the states of New York and Nebraska, both of which require 1000 hours of training. And in some states that don’t have state regulation, there are certain cities, like Boulder, Colorado and San Diego, California, that require more hours of training than the state of New Mexico. So, if you move to these areas after attending Crystal Mountain and want to get licensed as a massage therapist you will need to take additional hours of training.

In what ways is counseling and advisement part of Crystal Mountain’s program? PDF Print E-mail
Academic advisement is an integral part of our program at Crystal Mountain. Each student is assigned to a Crystal Mountain faculty advisor who provides him or her with feedback on his or her progress as a therapist. Crystal Mountain’s administrative staff is also available to provide additional academic support. If a student desires tutoring, our administrative staff can provide a list of available tutors. Crystal Mountain students pay for tutoring directly to their tutors.

Our caring staff is available to help students identify and contact whatever support services they may need.
